Day 19

Yesterday was very productive…finished the driveway fencing including the Merry Christmas sign at the bottom.  Made the ramp for Santa’s new home (keeping it under the ramps for now) and started on the neigbors driveway.

Today is a washout…have to work in the morning and doing an early Veterans Day program this afternoon.  Will spend this evening testing light strings for putting up tomorrow.

A side note – my goal is between 130,000 and 135,000 lights this year.  Sounds like a lot, but keep in mind that the 350+ figures account for about 70,000 lights (and they have already been checked and retaped as needed).  My average rate on putting up lights is 5,000 per day, so thats only 12-13 days of actually putting up lights…and I have 18 days left.

Read a recent article in the paper about light safety.  It said you should discard lights after 3 years of use!!!  Throw away 45,000 lights per year???  You have got to be kidding.  My average burn is about 7 years on a light set (and many of the figures have lights over 10 years old).   My policy is to throw away the light string when 10-15% of the lights are now longer working.
